Learner's license test
Controls of the vehicle - 4 January 2026
1. Vehicle controls are items such as : steering wheel, brakes, clutch pedal, accelerator pedal, speedometer etc.
2. You must know, what each control is used for
Controls of the vehicle
1. Rear-view mirror : check if it is safe to manoeuvre
2. Windscreen wiper : to wipe the windscreen
3. Exterior mirror : check if it is safe to manoeuvre
4. Steering wheel : to steer the wheel in a particular direction. Keep both hands on the wheel except when changing gears, giving hand signals or indicating.
5. Indicator switch : to signal your intention to turn
6. Gear lever : to select gears
7. Parking brake : to hold the vehicle stationary
8. Clutch : to disengage the engine for gear change
9. Footbrake : to reduce speed or stop
10. Accelerator : to increase or decrease speed
11. Hoot/Horn : to give a warning signal

Combing the use of vehicle controls
# Check if it is safe to manoeuvre : 1 (rear-view mirror) and 3 (exterior mirror)
# Indicate your intention to change direction or turn : 5 (indicator)
# Turn or change direction : 4 (steering wheel)
# Ensure the parked vehicle remains stationary : 7 (parking brake)
# Select or Change gear : 8 (Clutch) and 6 (gear lever)
# Increase or decrease speed : 10 (Accelerator)
# Stop or reduce speed suddenly : 9 (Footbrake)
# Negotiate a sharp turn : 1 (rear-view mirror), 3(exterior mirror), 5(indicator), 9(Footbrake), 8(clutch), 6(gear lever), 4(steering wheel), 10(accelerator)
